The Night Before New Year's Day
by Patricia Mulligan Jones
'Twas the night before New Year's Day, when all through the lands,
Not a creature was sleeping, and especially the bands.
Intended resolutions were listed with care,
In hopes that a fresh "New Year" soon would be there.
Some people felt there'd be much to dread,
While visions of changes hopped in another's head.
A few minutes before midnight, and New Year's birth,
I prayed and read God's Word about Christ's plan for Earth.
Christ was born, killed, and resurrected, so that for us He saves,
From torments of Hell, and sin that enslaves.
On further I turned the previous Bible Pages,
And read fulfilled prophecies of all through the ages.
Fulfilling prophecies of end times are here, I feel --
Maybe the New Year will have much more to reveal.
No matter what our list of resolutions shall be,
We Christians must add "Witness," so others can see,
How Christ is THE ANSWER for all of our needs --
Salvation, sanctification, and in our deeds.
We're to "walk in the Spirit," and be led by Him,
To help bring more light to a world that's so dim.
If we "live in the Spirit," as God's Word says,
We'll bear certain fruits throughout our days.
They're fruits of the Spirit that we must employ --
Love, Peace, Patience, Faith and Joy,
Gentleness, Goodness, Temperance and Meekness.
They're all needed for New Year's success!
When dark problems come that we'd like to shove,
Don't try to worry, but look up above,
Fall to the floor, and kneel in earnest prayer,
With faith and assurance that Christ will be there.
If you're not a Christian, but want a happy New Year,
Turn to Christ of Christmas, and have no more fear!
If you are a Christian, then the greatest thing to do,
Is KEEP God FIRST place in your life and let Him work through you.
Keep in the center of God's will and to Him be so near,
And you can have a bright and happy New Year!
